What is Michigan Central OPEN?

More than a century ago, Michigan Central Station opened its doors. For generations it has held our stories, and this June The Station’s ground floor will open once again for the first time in 36 years. From June 6 – 16, 2024, Ford Motor Company and Michigan Central are inviting everyone from near and far to join us for Michigan Central OPEN, a celebration for Detroit and the world to start The Station’s next chapter. Come enjoy food, beverage and fun outside The Station and a first look at The Station’s restored ground floor.

 

What is the schedule of events and activities during Michigan Central OPEN?

  • Live from Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central. On the evening of June 6, there will be an outdoor concert featuring some of Detroit’s biggest stars, as well as short films, and appearances by prominent Detroit leaders sharing stories about Detroit’s innovation and culture. Performers will be announced soon. Registration is required for this free concert and will be first-come-first-serve. It will also be broadcast and live streamed. Information about how to tune in is coming soon. Gates into the outdoor concert will open at 6 PM and the pre-show will start at 8 PM, followed by the concert at 8:30 PM. The concert ends at 10:00 PM. See Live from Detroit section below for more details.
  • OPEN House: The Station will be open to the public from June 7-16 to explore the newly restored ground floor. The experience includes exhibits that immerse visitors in The Station’s history, restoration, and next chapter. Attending OPEN House is free, but registration is required and time slots will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis. You can register for time slots on the hour and half hour. Times vary daily:
    • JUNE 7 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM
    • JUNE 8 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM
    • JUNE 9 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
    • JUNE 11-13 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
    • JUNE 14-15 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM
    • JUNE 16 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

What is the recommended age?
  • There are no age restrictions to attend Live from Detroit. Please note that the concert ends after 10 PM. Use your best discretion in regards to bringing children under 12.
  • Michigan Central OPEN House is designed to be enjoyed by attendees of all ages! Whether you’re planning to come with family, friends, or on your own, there’s something for everyone to enjoy

What happens after June 16?

After June 16, The Station’s ground floor will be open on Fridays and Saturdays throughout summer. The OPEN House experience will continue on those days. No registration will be required after June 16. Dates and hours are subject to change. Operating days, times and areas of The Station that are open to the public will expand in phases starting in Fall 2024. Please check the website for updates.

 

What are the road closures?

From June 1 – 5 and June 7 – 16, a few blocks near Newlab at Michigan Central, located east of The Station, will be closed. Check back soon for information on specific streets and blocks.

On June 6, we expect additional road closures east and south of Newlab at Michigan Central and north of The Station. Check back soon for information on specific streets and blocks. Please note that closed roads will allow pedestrian traffic only. No vehicles of any kind will be allowed, e.g. cars, trucks, bicycles, scooters, etc.

 

How can I get to the event site?Will there be parking?

On June 6 for the concert, rideshare will be able to drop you a few blocks from The Station outside of the road closure area, after which you can walk the last blocks to the concert entry gates. As mentioned above, any roads near The Station that are closed on June 6 will only allow pedestrian traffic. No vehicles of any kind will be allowed, e.g. cars, trucks, bicycles, scooters, etc.

On June 6 – 7, street parking is not allowed in the area. On June 6, public parking closer to downtown is recommended. Check back soon for suggestions of specific lots and garages. Starting June 7, complimentary parking for visitors will be available at the Bagley Mobility Hub.

From June 7 – 16, complimentary parking will be available at the Bagley Mobility Hub for OPEN House visitors, located one block from The Station (1501 Wabash St, Detroit, MI 48216).

 

Michigan Central is committed to creating a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for all attendees. To ensure this, attendees are required to refrain from the following:

  • Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal
  • Intoxication or other signs of drug or alcohol impairment that result in irresponsible behavior
  • Offensive language or obscene gestures, including the use of such language or gestures concerning a person’s race, ethnicity, color, gender, religion, creed, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or national origin; or to instigate, incite or encourage a confrontation or physical assault
  • Interference with the progress of the events (including throwing objects and any unauthorized entry)
  • The unlawful use of controlled substances (including marijuana) or illegal drugs
  • Smoking, including vaporizers, e -cigarettes, and smokeless tobacco
  • Failing to follow the instructions of Michigan Central event staff
  • Verbal or physical harassment of any other attendee
  • Conduct that results in damage to the event site or other personal property
  • Any conduct deemed inappropriate or dangerous to attendees or participants
  • Violations of any city/county ordinances, state, federal, or other applicable laws or regulations

 

What is prohibited?

Live from Detroit is a smoke-free environment. The use of tobacco products, vapes, e-cigarettes, and cannabis is prohibited. Please only bring essential items with you. At the entry gate security checkpoint, security will do a thorough inspection to make sure attendees do not have any prohibited items with them. Items determined to be inappropriate for entry into the secure perimeter will be the responsibility of the attendee and cannot be accepted, stored, or checked by Michigan Central or the Detroit Police Department. Prohibited items include the items listed below, as well as anything else security flags. Exceptions/accommodations may be made if medically necessary:

  • Firearms, weapons, knives, and explosives
  • Pets of any kind other than designated service animals
  • All outside food and beverage, including but not limited to alcohol
  • Beach balls or inflatable devices (balloons)
  • Footballs
  • Chairs, stools, or other seating devices
  • Drones
  • Fireworks, pyrotechnics of any kind
  • Frisbees
  • Illegal substances
  • Laser pointers
  • Motorized scooters and skateboards
  • Noisemakers, whistles, and horns
  • Poles, sticks, missile-like objects of any kind
  • Recording devices, including detachable pieces
  • Tripods
  • Umbrellas
  • Bottles, cans, thermoses, coolers, aerosol cans, cups, and beverage containersof any kind, unless purchased at food truck within the OPEN Live concertperimeter
  • Offensive, obscene, threatening, abusive, or discriminatory clothing
  • Any banners, flags, or signs
  • Any other item deemed inappropriate or unsafe by Michigan Central Securityor Detroit Police Department

 

Are personal cameras and video cameras allowed?

Private cameras and video cameras are allowed at the concert. Guests are encouraged to capture their experiences. However, professional-grade equipment requires prior approval or credentials. The use of wireless microphones or any UHF/VHF wireless devices is prohibited. Unauthorized devices will be powered down.

 

Official videotaping and photography consent

Michigan Central and its affiliated entities, agents, and designees will be filming, videotaping, and/or taking photographs (“Recording”) at the event sites and surrounding area. By entering Live from Detroit or OPEN House, you consent to such recording, and expressly grant to Michigan Central and their respective partners, sponsors, licensees, advertisers, broadcasters, and streamers the irrevocable permission to use your name, image, likeness, voice, actions, and/or statements captured in connection with such Recording, without compensation, for any purpose whatsoever, in all media now known or hereafter created, throughout the universe, in perpetuity. All Recordings shall be the sole property of Michigan Central and by entering any June 2024 Michigan Central event, you hereby release Michigan Central and all of the above listed entities and persons from any and all liability for (a) infringement of any rights arising from this Recording, or the exploitation thereof, (b) any claims based upon invasion of privacy, libel, slander, false light, right of publicity,misappropriation of name, likeness or image, or the concept known as droit morale and (c) any injury, loss, or damage, to persons or property. If you do not agree to the foregoing terms and conditions, please do not enter this event.

Outdoor activities involve risk related to extreme heat, cold, inclement weather, and natural disasters. These risks are beyond our control and may result in delays or cancellations in programming. With appreciation of the dangers and risks associated with outdoor programs and activities, you, on your own behalf and/or on behalf of your minor child(ren) as the case may be, hereby fully and completely release and waive any and all claims for personal injury, death, or loss that may arise from your decision to participate in Michigan Central OPEN events and activities.

JUNE 6 – LIVE FROM DETROIT: THE CONCERT AT MICHIGAN CENTRAL

 

Where is the concert entrance?

There will be two entry gates off Michigan Avenue into Roosevelt Park.

 

Is Live from Detroit an accessible event?

Yes, it is a fully accessible event. There will be a specific accessible entrance to Roosevelt Park, as well as accessible seating areas and restrooms. There will be signs directing patrons to these facilities and concert staff will direct, as well. Check back soon for more detailed information on accessibility.

 

Are Service Animals allowed?

Service animals specifically trained to assist persons with disabilities are allowed. These animals are welcome throughout the concert areas, including ADA-accessible sections. Guests with service animals are advised to ensure that their animals remain on a leash or in a harness and are under control at all times. Handler is responsible for any issues/damages.

 

What time should I arrive?

The gates for Live from Detroit open at 6 PM on June 6, 2024. The pre-show starts at 8 PM, followed by the concert at 8:30 PM. The concert ends at 10:00 PM.

 

What are the entry requirements?

Attendees are required to register in advance on www.michigancentral.com for single-use tickets. Tickets are first-come-first-serve. At the entry gates, all attendees must present a single use ticket and go through security.

 

Is there a bag policy?

Small bags that do not exceed 4.5” x 6.5” in size can be taken into the concert after being checked by security. For any bag larger than that, there is a clear bag policy, meaning the only bags allowed inside the site perimeter are clear and a maximum size of 12″ x 6″ x 12″. This includes clear plastic bags, backpacks, fanny packs, clear cinch bags that fit within the permissible dimensions, and one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags. No buckles, grommets/hardware, or décor can be concealing any part of the bag. Logos can only be on one side of the bag. Items determined to be inappropriate for entry into the secure perimeter will be the responsibility of the attendee and cannot be accepted, stored or checked by Michigan Central or the Detroit Police Department.

 

Is re-entry allowed?

Once you have entered the concert perimeter and your ticket has been scanned, if you then exit the concert site, there is no re-entry.

 

What are the seating arrangements?

The concert will take place in front of The Station in Roosevelt Park. It is standing room only; there is no seating for general admission tickets. No outside chairs, stools, or other seating devices are permitted.What food and beverage options are available?Food and nonalcoholic beverages will be available for sale from local vendors. Outside food and beverages will not be permitted.

 

What are the restroom facilities like?

There are numerous porta potties and handwashing stations set up around the concert site, including accessible, ADA-compliant facilities.

Will Live from Detroit be broadcast or streamed?
Yes. Watching does not require registration. Information about how to tune in is coming soon.

 

OPEN HOUSE (June 7 – 16)

Do I need tickets for Michigan Central OPEN House?

Admission is free, but pre-registration will be required for the indoor OPEN House from June 7 – 16. Please visit michigancentral.com to register. After June 16, The Station’s ground floor will remain open on Fridays and Saturdays throughout summer starting June 21. Registration will not be required after June 16. Days and hours subject to change. Check the website for updates.

 

Where is Michigan Central OPEN House?

The OPEN House will be held inside the first floor of Michigan Central Station. Ticket holders for the indoor events should meet outside on the east side of The Station to check in for your registered time slot. The Station’s address is 2001 15th St, Detroit, MI 48216.

 

When should I arrive?

Plan to arrive 15 minutes before your entry time. Your ticket allows you access to The Station within 30 minutes of your ticket window.

 

How long should I plan to be there?

Once in The Station, visitors should expect to enjoy the OPEN House for no more than one hour.

 

What food and beverage options are available?

From June 7 – 16, food & drinks provided by local vendors will be available in front of the Newlab at Michigan Central Plaza at certain times throughout the day. There are also dozens of restaurant options within walking-distance or a few minutes drive from The Station in the Corktown and Southwest Detroit neighborhoods.

 

Is OPEN House an accessible event?

Yes, it is a fully accessible event. The main entrance to OPEN House is accessible and there will be accessible routes throughout the experience, as well as accessible restrooms. Signs and event staff will clearly share this information with visitors. Additionally, there will be a smart phone experience with both audio and closed captioning that guides visitors, if they choose to use it.
