Michigan Central OPEN: Summer at The Station

Visitor Information & Policies

OPEN House

Explore The Station’s newly restored ground floor. The self-guided experience is designed for all ages and includes exhibits that immerse visitors in The Station’s history, restoration, and next chapter. Enhance your visit by downloading the free Smartify app and bringing your headphones for an interactive, guided audio experience that enhances each exhibit.

OPEN Outdoor

Party on the plaza next door to The Station in front of Newlab at Michigan Central. On Fridays from 5pm to 9pm, kick off the weekend with music and entertainment on our outdoor stage, plus food trucks, and adult beverages. On Saturdays from 10am to 5pm, picnic with the family while enjoying live entertainment and food trucks.

Hours of Operation

Hours of operation are subject to change based on holidays, private events, weather, or other circumstances at the discretion of Michigan Central.

Hours of Operation:

Fridays 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. (doors close at 8:30 pm)

Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (doors close at 4:30 pm)

Extended Labor Day Weekend Hours

Sunday, September 1: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (doors close at 4:30 pm)

Monday, September 2: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (doors close at 4:30 pm)

Parking

Visitors are encouraged to park at Michigan Central’s Bagley Mobility Hub parking garage located at 1501 Wabash, Detroit, MI 48216. Parking at The Bagley Mobility Hub is free during
Summer at The Station hours of operation.

Photography

All photography is limited to personal use only, without written pre-authorization from Michigan Central. Guests are encouraged to capture their experience and use #MichiganCentralOPEN on social media.

Professional photo and video equipment is not permitted inside The Station without prior approval. Contact info@michigancentral.com for more information.

Selfie sticks, tripods, lighting equipment, wireless microphones or any UHF/VHF wireless devices are prohibited. Unauthorized devices will be powered down.

Photography cannot block or disrupt other guests or operations.

Media must contact Michigan Central’s Communications team in advance of interior filming or photography inside The Station. Email  michigancentral@berlinrosen.com to make
arrangements.

Shop

Take home a piece of The Station with our official merchandise. Visit The Shop, nestled within the landscaping near the main guest entrance on the east side of the building.

Seating

Indoor: There is limited bench seating throughout The Station.

Outdoor: Benches, bistro tables, picnic tables, and chairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis in the parks and green spaces around The Station and in plaza for OPEN Outdoor.

Accessibility

Entry: All guest entrances are accessible.

Parking & Drop-off: Parking is available at the Bagley Mobility Hub for OPEN House visitors, located one block from The Station (1501 Wabash St, Detroit, MI 48216). This structure is accessible as well as the path to The Station. Limited accessible street parking is also available on surrounding roadways.

ADA drop off is available at the East entrance triangle off 15th Street.  Visitors may drop off members of their party and park at the Bagley Mobility Hub.

Restrooms: All restrooms are accessible.

Closed Captioning: A printed version and large print format of our audio tour are available upon request. Based on availability.

Service Animals: Michigan Central abides by the ADA regarding the admission of service animals based on their ability to perform a specific task. Animals regarded as comfort animals, therapy animals, companion animals or emotional support animals are not service animals as defined by the ADA. Therefore, they are not allowed at Michigan Central.

Official Videotaping and Photography Consent

Michigan Central and its affiliated entities, agents, and designees will be filming, videotaping, and/or taking photographs (“Recording”) at the event sites and surrounding area. By entering OPEN House, you consent to such recording, and expressly grant to Michigan Central and their respective partners, sponsors, licensees, advertisers, broadcasters, and streamers the irrevocable permission to use your name, image, likeness, voice, actions, and/or statements captured in connection with such Recording, without compensation, for any purpose whatsoever, in all media now known or hereafter created, throughout the universe, in perpetuity. All Recordings shall be the sole property of Michigan Central and by entering any 2024 Michigan Central event, you hereby release Michigan Central and all of the above listed entities and persons from any and all liability for (a) infringement of any rights arising from this Recording, or the exploitation thereof, (b) any claims based upon invasion of privacy, libel, slander, false light, right of publicity, misappropriation of name, likeness or image, or the concept known as droit morale and (c) any injury, loss, or damage, to persons or property. If you do not agree to the foregoing terms and conditions, please do not enter this event.

What are the Safety Policies

Michigan Central is committed to creating a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for all attendees. To ensure this, attendees are required to refrain from the following during all
Michigan Central OPEN events:

  • Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal
  • Intoxication or other signs of drug or alcohol impairment that result in irresponsible behavior
  • Offensive language or obscene gestures, including the use of such language or gestures concerning a person’s race, ethnicity, color, gender, religion, creed, disability, age, sexual
    orientation, gender identity/expression, or national origin; or to instigate, incite or encourage a confrontation or physical assault
  • Interference with the progress of the events (including throwing objects and any unauthorized entry)
  • The unlawful use of controlled substances (including marijuana) or illegal drugs
  • Smoking, including vaporizers, e-cigarettes, and smokeless tobacco
  • Failing to follow the instructions of Michigan Central event staff
  • Verbal or physical harassment of any other attendee
  • Conduct that results in damage to the event site or other personal property
  • Any conduct deemed inappropriate or dangerous to attendees or participants
  • Violations of any city/county ordinances, state, federal, or other applicable laws or regulations

What is Prohibited

Michigan Central is committed to creating a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for all attendees. To ensure this, attendees are required to refrain from the following during all Michigan Central OPEN events:

  • Firearms, weapons, knives, and explosives
  • Pets of any kind other than designated service animals
  • All outside food and beverage, including but not limited to alcohol
  • Illegal substances
  • Tripods, selfie-sticks, lighting or other recording/photography/videography equipment without advance permission
  • Bottles, cans, thermoses, coolers, aerosol cans, cups, and beverage containers of any kind
  • Offensive, obscene, threatening, abusive, or discriminatory clothing
  • Any banners, flags, or signs
  • Any other item deemed inappropriate or unsafe by Michigan Central Security
