Kintsugi Village
January 5, 2026
Kintsugi Village School is the early-childhood education centerpiece of Kintsugi Village, a broader community-center campus blending education, art, food, nature, and community gathering.
Vision & Philosophy:
Kintsugi Village School is rooted in the belief that children are capable, curious learners and should be seen as active participants in their own learning: explorers, creators, collaborators.
Its educational approach is inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach — a model that emphasizes child-led, hands-on, project-based learning, with the learning environment itself acting as a “third teacher.”
Through this approach, the school aims to foster not only early academic skills (pre-math, literacy) but also vital socio-emotional capacities—cooperation, empathy, self-regulation, communication, creativity, and a sense of agency.
Structure & Program:
Kintsugi Village School serves children ages 3 to 5.
We plan to operate year-round, with optional summer programming (June–August), and offer after-school care (3:30–5:00 PM) for an additional fee.
Families can choose from different attendance schedules depending on their needs:
• 2 days per week (Tue + Thu)
• 3 days per week (Mon, Wed, Fri)
• 5 days per week (Mon–Fri)
The school plans to offer scholarships to families with financial need.
Two main pathways for assistance:
• A proximity-based scholarship for families living in nearby Detroit ZIP codes (48208, 48209, 48210, 48216).
• Subsidy via the state’s Child Development and Care Program (CDC), with staff support to help eligible families apply.
Additionally: meals and snacks will be provided — prepared on-site — with a focus on nutrition, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Kids will have hands-on opportunities to grow herbs/vegetables in the school's garden or greenhouse, connecting them to food, nature, and community.
