Michigan Central, the University of Michigan Center for Innovation, and the City of Detroit present Career Development Day at Michigan Central. This event connects Detroiters with leading employers, training providers, and vital career resources.

This event connects Detroiters with leading employers, training providers, and vital career resources. Attendees can access on-site hiring, professional portrait services, and expert-led workshops. Sessions, guided by U-M experts, cover public speaking, personal branding, and leveraging AI tools like ChatGPT for job searching, résumé building, and interview preparation. Discover high-quality career pathways and gain skills for immediate and long-term professional growth.

Event Schedule:

  • 1:00 PM: Event Kickoff & Registration. Doors open. Enjoy refreshments and get your professional headshot.

  • 1:20 PM: Welcome & Orientation. Get acquainted with the event and receive tips for effective networking and interviewing.

  • 1:30 PM – 3:45 PM: Core Engagement.

  • Employer Networking: Connect with employers, deliver your perfect pitch, and submit resumes. Be prepared to succinctly introduce yourself to prospective employers. We recommend bringing at least 10 copies of your resume. Download our Perfect Your Pitch Worksheet to prepare!

  • On-the-Spot Interviews: Engage in 10-15 minute screening interviews.

  • Workshops: Attend three 30-minute sessions (1:30 PM, 2:15 PM, 3:00 PM) offering practical skills.

  • Professional headshots continue.

  • 3:45 PM: Concluding Activities.

  • 4:00 PM: Event Concludes.
